Local businesses and aspiring models hit the runway to shine in.
Hooper, whose professional realm is marketing and advertising, recruited businesses to participate in sponsoring the night. To keep the occasion community-focused, open auditions for aspiring models were hosted Aug. 22 at the Arcada, where more than two dozen competed for a chance to model in the show. The top model, to be chosen during the event by a committee of three judges who represent community leadership, entertainment, and fashion backgrounds, will gain exposure and a comprehensive prize package, Zaya said.

Rehearsals have given the girls a chance to experience the St. Charles business community, said Tyra Benson, a freshman at Geneva High School and one of 14 finalists.

‘The store owners we visited for wardrobing seemed very happy to work with us and be a part of this,’ Tyra said.more

Now Read This.
Until last fall, major brands like Anheuser-Busch and McDonald”s, wouldn”t advertise in a relatively young magazine (it was launched in 2005) that lacked prolonged tracking by syndicated researchers such as Mediamark Research & Intelligence and Simmons Market Research, says publisher Lori Burgess. ‘We are now measured, as of last fall,’ she says. ‘That helped us immensely.’ The celebrity magazine”s cozy editorial ties to its subjects was crucial to wooing ads, she said. Burgess says an upcoming advertorial will feature the young unknowns from the MGM movie Fame, slated for release this summer, wearing fashion from advertiser Bebe.

A few magazines prospered simply because they happened to be in the right space at the right time. Organic Gardening, the kernel from which publisher Rodale sprouted 66 years ago, hit the zeitgeist jackpot.more

City officials vote to hire public information officer, deny.
When the city begins looking for PIO candidates, Columbus officials likely will publicly advertise the position before hiring anyone, Armstrong explained. ?I?m not sure if there is any law that says we have to advertise the position or anything,? Armstrong said. ?But we usually go through an advertising process with things like this, and I assume we will do the same with this position.? Columbus Chief of Police Joseph St. John ardently supported the hiring of an information officer. ?Somebody?s already doing it on our staff,? St. John told the council. He explained that hiring someone specifically to handle public relations and information duties will free police employees who are sharing the duty of updating the department Web site to focus on their original jobs and the same will apply to other city departments.more

Orange County Register owner files for bankruptcy.
Like its competitors, the company said in court documents that it has been fighting to offset the loss of advertising revenue as job listings and readers migrated to the Internet.

As the recession ate away at its display advertising, the company tried to cut costs by consolidating printing and laying off staff, but still defaulted on $770.6 million of debt, according to court documents.

‘Reaching this agreement with our lenders provides us with an orderly process to re-align our balance sheet with the realities of today”s media environment,’ Freedom chief executive, Burl Osborne, said in a statement.

The bankruptcy likely ends the ownership of the Orange County Register by the family of R.C. Hoiles, who purchased the paper in 1935 and is known for his libertarian philosophy.more

Barack Obama”s Speech to Students Revs Up the Wingnuts

Barack Obama”s Speech to Students Revs Up the Wingnuts.
Democrats got up in arms, accusing him of using taxpayer money on what they called ‘paid political advertising.’ Their reproaches merited eye-rolling, but did not amount to a full-fledged outbreak of PDS.

The key difference is that in the modern media echo chamber-with the Internet, talk radio, 24 hour ‘news’ channels, Facebook, etc. such derangement is much more communicable.
