Walmart begins iPhone advertising ahead of schedule.
A day after the leak of alleged internal Walmart memo detailing its iPhone 3G launch, an image has surfaced that suggests the company has begun marketing the device ahead of schedule, according to AppleInsider. The poster appears to be wrapped around an anti-theft sensor and reads simply ‘iPhone 3G. Now at Walmart.’ The memo suggested that a pilot program would allow Wal-Mart employees to purchase the phones at 488 stores.
Although initial rumors anticipated a $99 phone at Walmart, possibly a 4GB model, the internal memo and other reports do not support the theory. The standard 8GB and 16GB models will likely be the only products introduced initially, with prices of $197 and $297, respectively. If the memo is genuine, the pilot program will be available to eligible employees chosen by lottery.more

Music companies try to get edge on Web

YouTube pays record labels every time a video is streamed or the label can get a share of advertising revenue around the video. The per-play fee is usually around half a cent per stream and the label gets paid the higher of aggregate per-play revenue or advertising revenue.
“The labels have to find a balance between how much money they can make from YouTube itself or if they can make more money from promoting their artists on YouTube,” said Ethan Horwitz, an intellectual property lawyer at King & Spalding.
Warner’s chief executive, Edgar Bronfman, faces extra pressure because his is the only publicly traded music company and will need to start showing shareholders a material return on deals with partners like YouTube. Warner’s share price has fallen nearly 60 percent since the start of 2008.more
