IAC”s Diller: The iPhone is our crystal ball.
‘I”m not a great predictor of these things,’ the IAC/InterActiveCorp CEO said onstage at his Wednesday keynote for the Advertising 2.0 conference, when interviewer and BusinessWeek reporter Jon Fine asked him when he thought the depressing economic news would finally end. (His personal belief is that it won”t get much worse.) ‘Not that, by the way, anybody”s predictions are worth very much to anybody.’ And he was particularly wary of commenting on the macro economy. ‘Oh, you certainly don”t want to hear from me on that,’ Diller said. ‘You”ve heard from every baboon in the world on the macro economy.’

Subway Puts Phelps Back in Its Advertising Pool

Subway Puts Phelps Back in Its Advertising Pool.
So you heard the one about the world”s fastest swimmer and the bong? Michael Phelps, infamously, admitted to an ill-advised toke at a party and a pictures was shot “round the world last winter that potentially jeopardized millions in sponsorships.
But the swimmer lost only a Kellogg ad deal in the fracas — and that was hardly his biggest paycheck. Meanwhile Visa, Speedo and Subway, among others, stood by him. But Subway distinguished itself as the last major sponsor to say he wasn”t fired. And Mr. Phelps was clearly back-burnered as Subway took him off its unfortunately named FreshBuzz website and delayed his first campaign.
Subway had, after all, scored a major coup in signing the highly coveted endorser in a multiyear restaurant-exclusive deal that executives familiar with the matter say included a number of bidders, including McDonald”s.more

unaffordable HELP "public option" proposal

unaffordable HELP "public option" proposal.
’system’–like the 30% administrative costs of private insurance–read ‘marketing/advertising, millions/billions for CEO pay, profit for shareholders. That 30% minus the 3% (Medicare”s overhead) could/should go toward provision of services.
This ‘public option’ is a HUGE financial windfall for the private health insurance corporations. Think about it! Employers being mandated to provide private insurance. What health insurance corporation isn”t privately salivating to get all those new enrollees!!
The ‘public option’ proposal will become a dumping ground for the chronically ill, costly (needing care which has been postponed), and surely will fail financially because the patient risk pool will be too small to gain all the advantages of a larger risk pool.
It adds another fragmented layer to the already cumbersome, unwieldy, confusing, provision of care we currently have.more

Sen. White moves toward race with Terry.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee already has started running advertising against Terry in an apparent bid to soften him up for an election fight.
The reason for all the interest?
Terry is one of 34 Republican congressmen who serve in districts where Obama won in November.
Democrats also believe Terry is vulnerable after bruising fights against Esch in 2006 and 2008. They say that White makes for a more formidable challenger than Esch, who was a political newcomer with a thin r?sum?.
‘Esch was an unknown, inexperienced commodity who almost upset Terry. Tom White has a distinguished private and public service record,’ said Barry Rubin, a former Nebraska Democratic Party official.
Republicans counter that the political winds are in Terry”s favor and that he is a battle-hardened veteran with a formidable grass-roots machine.more
